$2000 In Fines Laid So Far This Year For Fire Safety Infractions At Summer Camps
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is continuing its fire safety inspection blitz on summer camps in our area.
So far this year, fines totaling over $2000 have been issued for smoke alarms that were not operational or that were out of date.
Stephen Hernen, Fire Chief of the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department. “We have zero tolerance for violations involving smoke alarms and will continue to actively enforce the requirements.”
Hernen says there are obligations under the Fire Code for owners to ensure the fire safety of people who rent a home, cottage or attend a summer camp and failure to maintain a smoke alarm in operating condition is a violation and owners may be subject to a fine, imprisonment, or both.
