Blue Green Algae Bloom On Bass Lake
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is advising of another blue-green algae bloom, this time on the north shore of Bass Lake, in Muskoka Lakes.
The health unit advises residents should take the following precautions:
- Do not use the lake water for drinking or the preparation of infant formula, or allow pets and livestock to drink or swim in the water where a bloom is visible
- Be cautious about eating fish caught in water where blue-green algae blooms occur
Many species of blue-green algae have the potential to produce toxins that are harmful to the health of humans and animals.
The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks will be monitoring the bloom and provide updates as they become available.
