Bracebridge Mayor Calls Out CN at Committee Meeting
The Mayor of Bracebridge didn't hold back when it comes to his feelings on the CN railway company during the most recent Bracebridge general committee meeting.
“We’ve seen the Town’s finances pillaged at the hands of a now-private corporation,” said Mayor Graydon Smith. “It’s abhorrent and they should be ashamed of themselves.”
Smith’s anger was sparked by the ballooning cost of a project to rehabilitate a bridge that crosses the railroad tracks on Queen Street. He said the town is also struggling with CN’s massive costs regarding another project set for Anne Street.
“When I die, can I come back as a CN flag person because apparently they must make about $1,500 a day,” said Smith. “I just want to point out how bad a community partner CN has been for Bracebridge on a number of projects in recent years. This will make no difference to them but it makes me feel better to say it out loud. They should be ashamed of themselves,” he said.
