Bracebridge Declines To Take On Maintenance Of Private Road
The Town of Bracebridge said they aren’t adding Carlson Court to their list of maintained roads.
During the latest general committee meeting, council received a letter from homeowners in the area requesting that the town take over maintenance of the road, which is privately maintained but in a bad state of repair.
Coun. Steve Clement said the Town often receives requests to take on responsibility for maintenance of roads. However, he said it typically isn’t long before those same residents are complaining about the excessive speeds and hike in taxes that can come with the upgrades.
Mayor Graydon Smith called the request a non-starter and staff recommended that no action be taken.
Staff explained that although it’s true that the Municipality owns the road allowance on which the roadway is situated, it’s under no obligation to maintain it and members of the public who use it do so at their own risk.
