Carbon Monoxide Week Starts November 1st
Ontario’s Fourth Annual Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week runs from November 1-7, 2018, and the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department is reminding residents to install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in your home if you have a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.
Fire Chief Richard Hayes says “The law requires that you have a working CO alarm adjacent to each sleeping area of the home if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage,”
Fuel-burning appliances can include furnaces, hot water heaters, gas or wood fireplaces, portable fuel-burning heaters and generators, barbeques, stoves and vehicles.
"In Ontario, more than 65% of injuries and deaths from CO occur in the home," he said.
Residents of Muskoka Lakes who have had their chimney swept or inspected this year, can go to the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department Administration Office in Port Carling, with your receipt and receive a free Smoke or CO alarm.
