Clement Addresses Opioid Crisis In House of Commons
On Friday, MP Tony Clement, rose in the House of Commons during Question Period to ask for treatment funding to tackle the opioid crisis.
Clement told the government that every day across Canada 11 lives are lost due to opioid overdose.
Clement pointed out that in his own riding there were nearly 600 emergency room visits for opioid poisonings last year which is more than a 30% increase of the previous year. “Just last week the Town of Bracebridge is looking at declaring a state of emergency,” he said.
The government responded by saying they are deeply concerned an are investing over $350 million in emergency response, much of it in treatment, restoring harm reduction and cutting red tape and removing barriers to treatment.
