Climate Action Muskoka Asks For Climate Emergency Declaration In Huntsville
Climate Action Muskoka representatives asked Huntsville councilors during the May 26 general committee meeting to declare a Climate Emergency.
Leslie Hastie, one of the Climate Action Muskoka speakers, told council that the District of Muskoka and Town of Gravenhurst have already passed resolutions after presentations were made. She also says that they will be speaking to other councils in the region regarding this request.
Hastie explains a climate emergency resolution will help coordinate and maximize efforts between the upper and lower tier municipalities to set and meet targets such as cutting green house gas emissions by 50 per cent in 2030 and zero net emissions by 2050.
