Concern About Break Up of Health Unit Expressed At Bracebridge Council
Bracebridge councillors are expressing some reservations about the potential breakup of the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit next year.
The move is part of a provincial plan to shrink the number of health units from 35 to 10 by April 1, 2020.
At the most recent Bracebridge council meeting, Mayor Graydon Smith said there were some concerns that Bracebridge could potentially be included in an area that stretches all the way north to James Bay. He said the Health Unit has said publicly that they're equally concerned with such a split but he cautioned that no final decision has been made yet.
Coun. Don Smith also expressed his concerns over the merger but he said he was equally concerned with Bracebridge being integrated into a district to the south that includes York region, as they also have an entirely different set of concerns and priorities.
