Council Ponders Possible By-elections In Huntsville
Huntsville councillors will hear a report at tonight’s council meeting that will recommend that, for any by-elections held for the remainder of this term of council (2018-2022), that be held by internet or telephone voting.
The recommendation comes as Mayor Aitchison, currently running in the federal election, may resign if he is successful and a new mayor would need to be elected or appointed.
Two councillors are rumoured to be interested in the position, and if one should be successful, their seats would also be open for election or appointment.
The Municipal Elections Act notes that by-elections shall be conducted as far as possible in the same way as regular elections.
The Town estimates the cost of the election would be approx.. $107,488.
