Council Sends Short Term Rental Bylaw Back To Committee
During Monday night’s council meeting in Huntsville the short term rental agreement was sent back to the Economic Development committee for further discussion.
Councillor Alcock advised that she still supported the agreement but there were complaints from constituents that the wording was too restrictive in regards to secondary suites. The agreement as written would not allow self-contained apartments in dwellings to be rented on a short term basis. Staff had advised that such accommodations would complete with long term rentals which Huntsville is short on. While those who have short term secondary suites could apply for an exemption and a zoning amendment, the process could be costly. Councillor Fitzgerald also felt the report needed further discussion.
