Deadline For Water & Sewer Payments Extended to September
The District of Muskoka delegated authority to staff to extend relief of water sewer payments up to September.
During the latest District council meeting, Julie Stevens, the District commissioner of finance and corporate services, told councillors that making the switch will allow for more flexibility as the COVID-19 pandemic changes.
Stevens said the District’s receivables for water and sewer payments are now up about six times compared to what they were at this time last year. That translates to 227 people owing roughly $100,000 in delinquent accounts compared to just $17,000 owed at the same time last year.
Stevens said staff have been hearing that some people think they don’t have to pay at all. They need more people to call them and make payment arrangements, she said. Stevens said of the 227 people who haven't paid their bills, only 15 to 20 have called the District to make new payment arrangements.
