Deadline Looms For J W Marriot Sewage Problems
An end of September deadline is looming for sewage inspections at the JW Marriott Resort and Spa in Minett.
During a recent Township of Muskoka Lakes committee meeting, township staff offered council an update on multiple recent sewage spills at the resort.
According to Township staff, on Aug. 2 the Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks issued a Provincial Officer’s Order following inspections of the private sewage facility owned by the JW Marriot.
The report goes on to outline some of the non-compliance matters that led to the Provincial Order. They included raw sewage spills into Lake Rosseau which occurred in July of 2015, December of 2017, July of 2018 and July of 2019. The report also says they failed to meet the effluent compliance limits and failed to take action to address the problems.
The Provincial Order also goes on to include a number of stipulations for the owner including increased requirements for oversight and an extensive review and assessment of the sewage works by a qualified person to be done by September 30, 2019.
