District Adds Another Consultation On Waste Management
The responses are pouring in when it comes to the District’s ongoing Waste Management Strategy.
In fact, following several well-attended community meetings and more than 700 online responses, the District has opted to include an additional community consultation session on Oct. 30th at the Bala Community Centre from 6 to 7:30 p.m. They have also extended the online survey deadline to November 8, 2019.
Speaking at a recent District Engineering and Public Works Committee Meeting, staff said there seems to be a significant amount of interest in several topics. In particular, they reported hearing back support for green bin organics, support for better recycling, and significant feedback on bin site transition.
Coun. Paul Wiancko said the removal of bin sites is a major concern in Georgian Bay. He said they’ve heard little feedback from cottage associations or marinas that have bin sites and many don’t have any idea that they’re going to be taken away.
Staff said they’re working to make sure there’s more communication with municipal councils so they’re aware of the key aspects of the plan. They said they're committed to engaging the cottage associations and present the strategy and create a better understanding of the problems at bin sites.
