District Creates Muskoka Housing Task Force
The District is putting the pressing issues of homelessness and affordable housing under the microscope.
During their most recent session, District council agreed to establish the Muskoka Housing Task Force to identify and promote strategies and opportunities for the creation of a range of housing options across Muskoka. They also issued an RFP for someone to complete a review of the 10 Year Housing and Homelessness Plan and an assessment of the District of Muskoka’s social housing stock.
The District owns and manages 472 housing units across Muskoka but staff say the units are aging and they’ll need investment. Council also heard that there’s been a significant change in the type of social housing units in demand - from multiple to single bedroom units.
Council set aside just over $90,000 for a review of the social housing portfolio.
