District Floats 2.27% Draft Budget Increase
Ratepayers are looking at a 2.27% property tax increase on their District portion of the tax bill in 2022.
The District of Muskoka finance and corporate services committee endorsed a draft tax supported budget during their January 19 meeting, which could see the 2022 taxes for a property assessed at $300,000 coming in at $892.75, a $19.78 increase from 2021.
The draft budget includes a net levy of $84,095,170, a 3.77% increase over last year. Staff had initially asked the finance and corporate services committee for a budget increase of 5% but were given a 3.5% guideline.
The budget still has opportunity for changes during the February District Council Committee of the Whole meeting, and staff have provided potential levy reductions of 0.29% to bring the increase in line with the initial direction from council.
The next budget meeting will be held on February 4th at 9 a.m.
