District Has Work To Do To Improve Waste Diversion
The District of Muskoka has some work to do when it comes to waste diversion.
Councillor Rick Maloney recently reported to Bracebridge council that the area is not meeting its targets when it comes to diversion.
With the area’s landfills filling rapidly, Maloney said the District is considering a number of potential actions including putting more emphasis on bag tags or putting bylaws in place to make waste diversion mandatory.
Councillor Don Smith said the bigger issue is that there isn't any system in place to deal with commercial green waste. Smith heard that there are serious logistics issues with the collection of commercial organic waste, but he maintained that finding a solution should be higher priority.
