District Looks To Determine Gaps In Broadband Coverage
District of Muskoka council recently voted to launch an RFP in hopes of finding a consultant to conduct a broadband gap analysis and strategic implementation study for the Muskoka region.
The move came during a recent council meeting as it was pointed out that the pandemic has highlighted the importance of internet access, for working, education, maintaining social connections, virtual medical appointments, and safety.
Council heard from staff that the first step in addressing the demand for improved ‘high speed’ broadband services in Muskoka is to conduct a broadband gap analysis that maps the District’s residences and businesses and determines their broadband connection speed. This information will be used to develop an implementation plan to bring adequate broadband service to homes and businesses throughout Muskoka.
