The District of Muskoka approved a recommendation to increase customer service at the Muskoka Airport, in the June 17, 2024, Council meeting.

District Chair, Jeff Lehman, and staff have been authorized as signing authority to establish an agreement with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation organization (PMCF).

According to the agenda, the PMCF agreement will be “for the 2024 Northern pass event on behalf of the District of Muskoka.”

Both of the agreements will be conditional to no financial expenses incurred to the District.

The agreements will also be pending the satisfaction of the District Solicitor, CAO, and Airport CEO.

According to a District Strategic Plan, the airport, which is owned and operated by them, contains 20 hangars, and employs approximately 150 people.

The facility is for commercial, corporate and general aviation, and “together contributing over $46 million dollars annually to economic impact,” indicates the Plan.

It adds that the District’s vision for the facility is “to be the Transportation Gateway to and from the Muskoka experience for people and businesses.”

The mission includes efficient and safe operations at the facility “serving the needs of Muskoka residents, businesses and tourists,” as a means of access to wilderness, and support for tourism and recreation, with respect to the environment, employees, infrastructure, and reputation.

The agreements are also in line with the District’s efforts toward continued improvement and effectiveness to that facility and economic growth, including attraction and retention as an ongoing priority.
