District OK's $200,000 Donation To Port Carling Hospice
The District of Muskoka is getting behind a hospice project in Port Carling to the tune of $200,000.
The decision to provide the funding was made during the most recent District of Muskoka council meeting.
Sandra Winspear, the executive director of Hospice Muskoka, told council they are currently waiting to hear if the request for funding from the province has been approved, but they need the money from the District now in order to complete Andy's House. In October, the LHIN and the province confirmed their support for a residential palliative care unit in west Muskoka.
When the project is completed, Andy’s House will be approximately 8,000 sq ft and contain
10 private rooms - seven for palliative care and three for post surgical recovery and respite care.
Coun. Allen Edwards from Muskoka Lakes said he supported the motion fully and commented that the west Muskoka community has already raised in excess of $2.5 million.
