District Spends Millions on New Projects
District council signed off on several million dollars worth of projects in Muskoka Lakes during the most recent council meeting.
The latest phase of the Peninsula Road reconstruction in Muskoka Lakes Township was given the green light at a cost of $2.2 million. The contract was awarded to Fowler Construction, who are tasked with fixing up a 2.1 km stretch of road from the Joe River Bridge to Muskoka Road 28.
The project includes a fully paved shoulder on both sides of the road for active transportation and bike lanes. The shoulders will be marked with Share the Road signs. This is phase three of a five-part reconstruction project.
During the same meeting, council also agreed to a $384,000 contract with McPherson - Andrews Contracting to repair the Rosseau River Bridge, also located in Muskoka Lakes.
The project is expected to result in a full road closure on Aspdin Road at the construction site from July 9 to July 20.
Council also approved nearly $500,000 to build traffic lights near the new Tim Hortons in Port Carling, and $848,000 for water tower upgrades in Port Carling and Bala.
