District Works With YWCA To Put More Women Into Politics
The YWCA and the District of Muskoka are joining forces in an effort to put more women into local politics.
The two organizations recently partnered to apply for the $5,000 Towards Parity in Municipal Politics grant now being offered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
If the grant is successful the money would be earmarked to help pay for workshops, networking and mentorship for women interested in getting involved in local politics.
The District has also pledged to chip in an additional $1,000 and staff time if the grant is successful.
Muskoka has some 52 councillors representing the region’s six municipalities, but only 16 are women.
