Dogs & Cats On The Minds Of Bracebridge Councilors
The Town of Bracebridge is tightening the leash when it comes to dogs.
During the last Bracebridge general committee meeting, councillors agreed that from now on dogs will need to be leashed in public places. However, dogs will continue to be allowed to be off leash in parks and on trails, as long as they’re under their owners control and not causing a nuisance.
The move came after a concerned resident said he had seen several dog attacks in his neighborhood, as well as roaming packs of dogs in town. The concerned citizen was also worried about cats being allowed outside without leashes but council did not consider a cat leash bylaw.
Town staff couldn’t substantiate all of the dog bite claims and said they have no reports of packs of dogs roaming the town but they did propose the new rules on dog walking.
Council voted in favour of the new rules and said they would take a closer look at leashing dogs in parks and on trails at a later date.
