Drop In Unemployment Rate Good For Whole Economy - Miller
Many Ontarians have a new job to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. That was the message from Norm Miller, MPP For Parry Sound Muskoka on Friday. Statistics Canada announced that employment in Ontario increased by 41,100 jobs in September bringing the unemployment rate down to 5.3%.
Miller says “This is great news not only for the people in these new jobs but for our whole economy."
Of the 41,100 new jobs created in Ontario in September, 36,200 were full time jobs while 4,900 were part time. As well, most new jobs were in the private sector including many self-employed workers. These brought the Ontario unemployment rate down to 5.3%. Across Canada the unemployment rate is 5.5%. In Central Ontario the rate is 5.8%
