Elexicon Dockside Festival headed for Gravenhurst
The Dockside Festival in Gravenhurst is ready to be rolled out at the Muskoka Wharf on Aug. 16, 17 and 18.
Now in its 28th year, the annual Elexicon Dockside Festival of the Arts has already secured over 100 vendors, a full musical lineup and children’s events throughout the weekend.
This year’s exciting collection of vendors includes dozens of perennial favourites along with many new faces.
Bryan Schmidt Woodworks offers handcrafted cutting and charcuterie boards made from Ontario hardwoods; Urban Oasis Succulent and Cactus Co. create one-of-a-kind succulent and cactus terrariums; while new addition salt+MUSTARD is a small batch specialty foods company, specializing infused finishing salts and artisanal mustard.
“We’ve been completely blown away by the range of submissions we’ve received this year from across the province,” says Sandy Lockhart, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, which organize Dockside. “Glassblowers, metalworkers, clothing designers...we’re going to have a little something for everyone.”
There will be a full lineup of children’s activities and musical talent on stage all weekend. Children’s activities include Sciensational Snakes, drawing and painting classes for kids, face painting and Scales Nature Park will bring their reptile menagerie along.
“There’s something for all ages at this year’s Dockside Festival,” says Chris Hammar, Chamber marketing and sponsorship lead. “We’ll have food trucks with all types of different culinary creations, our friends from Sawdust City will have cold drinks for the grown-ups and we’ll have artists doing their work live for the audience as well.”
A bevvy of musical talent will be on stage, including Tobin Springs, Sean Cotton, James Grey, Papa John Witterick, Sawyer Lance and Jess Sevier.
“There really isn’t another event quite like this,” says Hammar. “We’re also reminding everyone out on the lakes to make an outing of it by taking your boat right to the wharf, tying up and hitting the Festival and the shops along the waterfront.”
Organizers say the longevity of the event is largely due to the generosity of the sponsors who show their support. This year’s sponsors include Elexicon Energy, The Muskokan, GBS Contracting, the Town of Gravenhurst, Unique Muskoka, Sawdust City Brewing Co., Kubota North, Black River Cheese, Tali Towels, Hunters Bay Radio, Muskoka Boat Rentals, Muskoka Springs, Leaf Filter, Jewel 88.5, Country 102 and Muskoka 411.
The Elexicon Dockside Festival of the Arts runs from 10 am - 6 pm, August 16 and 17 and from 10 am - 4 pm on August 18 with admission by donation. The Chamber of Commerce also uses the funds generated to create a bursary for a graduating student from Gravenhurst High School who is studying the arts.
