Emergency Preparedness Week which runs through to Saturday, is a national awareness initiative that has taken place annually since 1996. It is a collaborative event undertaken by provincial and territorial emergency management organizations supporting activities at the local level, in concert with Public Safety Canada and partners.

EP Week encourages Canadians to take three simple steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies:

  • Know the risks
  • Make a plan
  • Make a 72-hour emergency kit

Todd Clapp, the Town of Gravenhurst’s Community Emergency Management Coordinator says “To build a 72-hour Emergency Kit, a family will need some basic supplies. In the event of a power supply interruption, for example, you need to stockpile food, plenty of fresh water and a battery operated or crank flashlight.”  He says the key is to make sure your family’s kit is organized, refreshed regularly and easy to find..”

The Muskoka Emergency Response Committee (MERC) has chosen Voyent Alert! as the communication service provider for these kinds of events. Registration for the service is FREE, simple and totally anonymous.
