Excavator pulls down hydro lines, causing wild fire
Yesterday at 3 pm fire crews from Foots Bay, Glen Orchard, Bala, and Port Carling were summoned to a hydro line incident on HWY 169 near Redwood Road in Muskoka Lakes.
The fire dept. says a commercial vehicle floating an excavator pulled down 2 poles and power lines. The live lines caused a wildfire and closed the road.
Firefighters had to wait for hydro to make the scene safe while the fire grew to 1/2 a hectare in size.
Once it was safe, crews made quick work extinguishing the fire and reopened the road at 6 pm.
Hydro service was restored last night.
