Fedeli Says They Have To Get It Right Before The Northlander Can Return
While making some funding announcements in Muskoka, Vic Fideli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade told Hunters Bay Radio that he expects the Northlander Train to return to service “soon”.
While Fideli wouldn’t be more specific on the governments plans, he did say that the test run last week was a good step forward in making the return of service sustainable.
Fideli said one of the most important factors was getting the schedule right – ensuring the service could stick to timetables and be on time by co-ordinating with CN rail, and offer a same day return service with a schedule and fare that would work for those wanting to use the service.
Fedeli admitted that they borrowed rolling stock for the test run, and new rolling stock would have to purchased before any new service could be offered.
Fedeli stressed that they have to “get this right” before launching the new service.
