Fire Destroys Cottage

At 9:08pm on Saturday, the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department was dispatched to a fully involved structure fire. The fire on Leonard Lake Road 1 was spotted by residents from across the lake, and called 911.

On arrival Firefighters found the cottage fully involved with fire. There were no persons present and the cottage was under construction. Fire crews from Milford Bay, Windermere/Raymond, and Port Carling quickly brought the fire under control.

There were no injuries. The fire damage is estimated at $450,000.  Officials are looking into the cause.

On Friday the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department was called to a full involved structure fire at 1794 Peninsula Rd. Station 5- Minett and Station 6- Port Carling responded with firefighters and apparatus to the scene.

The Fire Dept says the cottage was completely destroyed, but Fire crews quickly stopped the spread of fire to the boat house and tree line.

The cottage was not occupied at the time of the fire. The investigation will continue into the cause.  An estimation of loss is approximately $375,000.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to an address on South Portage Rd. in Lake of Bays for a reported structure fire early this morning at approximately 2:30am.

The first arriving crews reported a fully involved structure and requested additional equipment to help battle the blaze.

The Fire Dept says the single storey cottage was totally destroyed but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

The cottage was unoccupied at the time and was undergoing renovations. 

The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined due to the extent of damage to the building.  Damage is estimated at 350,000.
