Gravenhurst's Wharf lacks accessibility
The Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst could be expanding its accessibility options.
An Accessible Dock Pilot Project Report was presented to Gravenhurst council during the June 15 council meeting by the Accessible Advisory Committee. The committee was given the go ahead in February 2020 to begin reviewing and assessing the accessibility situation at the Wharf dock.
The recommendation by the AAC is a motorized lift to assist with hoisting someone out of their boat and onto the dock. Councillor Jo Morphy said that several disabled people reported find the docks extremely high and difficult to get onto from their boats.
Staff were then directed to conduct a thorough review of logistical, technical, financial and built-environmental requirements to install the lift. As well, it was determined this project would be part of 2022 budget considerations.
