HFA Pitches Summer Art Events To Huntsville Councilors
The General Committee meeting on April 28 had Huntsville’s councilors discussing upcoming activities for Downtown Huntsville.
Dan Watson, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, proposed several exciting ideas geared towards showcasing local artists and introducing them to the public throughout the summer at River Mill Park and the town docks.
Among them: a busker pitch, mobile art gallery and the popular canoe murals. During the meeting, Watson requested permit fees be waived for the use of the outdoor space for this coming summer.
The Huntsville Art Crawl, another initiative scheduled for June, sees artists partner with downtown businesses.
Watson says “the Festival of the Arts will promote the tour. It will bring increased visitation to businesses, sales to artists and brings art to public spaces.”
This initiative had strong support from Deputy Mayor Alcock. She states, “this is a fantastic idea and I suspect it will be very successful.”
While council supported the idea, they did have concerns about the proposed location.
