Huntsville Makes Changes To Firearms Bylaw
During Monday’s electronic town council meeting in Huntsville, town staff reported on the Draft Firearms By-Law. Feedback from the general public resulted in some changes to the new proposed by law.
The minimum property size requirement as suggested by Staff was to reduce the requirement to 3 acres, it was previously 7.4 acres. Councilors Armour, Withey & Stone all felt that the size could be further reduced in some circumstances. Councilor Armour specifically requested that the minimum size be reduced to 1 acre for bow hunters to target practice. The Fox Lake Association requested they be included in the restricted area, and councilor Alcock confirmed with staff if other areas want to be included in the restricted boundaries then they could contact the town to be considered for that.
Other changes staff proposed included eliminating the time of day restrictions, as they are already regulated by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry.
After some discussion council passed a motion for the minimum size to be reduced to 1 acre.
