Huntsville To Buy New Street Sweeper
Huntsville councilors approved the purchase of a new street sweeper as well as a street sweeping plan for a total of $350,000 in the 2019 budget.
Staff told councilors that the sweeper they are planning to purchase is more efficient and has a quicker pickup time than their older model, he also noted that the life span is roughly 8 years.
The annual street sweeping program is provided to remove the previous winters' sand buildup and debris. This buildup can pose hazardous conditions to motorists and has been a continuous complaint of residents with regards to airborne dust if left behind and not removed.
Fire Chief Steve Hernen says phones have been "ringing off the wall" due to the excess of sand on roads and that they need to get ahead on this issue for next year.
The current sweeper is 12 years old. It has been taken off the roads and will be scrapped.
