Huntsville Town Dock Repairs Could Cost $80,000
Huntsville Councilors will be hearing a report at Monday’s council meeting that recommends the town expedite the replacement of all the deck boards on the town dock immediately after it was discovered that the existing boards are rotting from the bottom up.
The report says that in 2018, inspections done as part of normal operations, staff began to notice early signs of deck board decay which required replacement of a few boards. After the flooding this spring inspection once again showed deck boards that required replacement. Staff say that since this time it has become a daily requirement to inspect and replace deck boards. During a recent inspection, staff walked the entire surface looking for soft areas or areas where the public has gone through the deck in the previous 24 hours. It is not uncommon to find 2-3 different defective areas each day.
The estimated cost to replace the decking is $80,000.
