Ironman Route Approved Despite Road Closures

On Monday, Greg Pilling, Manager of Sales & Customer Service for the Town of Huntsville, and Nick Stoehr, Race director for Trisport Events presented a revised proposal to council for the Ironman 70.3 taking place in Huntsville on July 12th.  Changes were made after the public meeting that took place on Feb 20th to better accommodate the public’s concern.

Pilling says the event will take place on July 12th.  Brunel Rd. will be now closed between Park Drive and North Mary Lake Road for approximately 4 hours instead of 6.

The town says 260 residents will be affected with the new route, down from the original estimate of 490.  The Town says emergency services will have access to the route if required by any of the residents, and the OPP will be stationed at each intersection to help any way they can.

Parking will be made available the night before for any residents that wish to park their vehicle away from the closed road. There will also be a station set up for residents that wish to leave before the closure.  Residents can also contact Tri Muskoka directly for any further concerns.

The motion was passed to by the council to permit the closure, despite Councilors Armour and Withey opposing.
