Labour Council Calling for Worker/Family Focused Pandemic Recovery
The North Simcoe Muskoka & District Labour Council is calling for a strong pandemic recovery centred around workers and their families.
President Mike De Rose says that “this pandemic has highlighted the inequality created by our existing systems,” and that the upcoming election presents an opportunity to hold political leaders accountable and to demand better jobs and social programs.
According to the Labour Council, the recovery must be built on good jobs that offer decent wages, benefits and a path to unionization. They say recovery planning must also strengthen the public health care system by adding universal pharmacare and disaster-proofing our social safety net with investments in childcare and affordable housing.
