MAHC asks for $74 Million as local share to build new hospitals
During Monday’s town council meeting in Huntsville, a deputation was made to council by Muskoka Algonquin Health Care.
In their presentation they advised that the vision for 2 hospitals is moving closer to reality, and they now need our support.
The Huntsville hospital would be a new build on existing land and the Bracebridge hospital would be a new build on new land.
The Ministry of Health is expected to fund $506 million towards the 2 hospitals, and the MAHC and the community to fund the remaining $74 million. These amounts may change though, as 2019 costs were used.
The commitment for the local share must be in place within a year in order to move forward with the project. Part of the stage planning will look at what will be needed in the future for capacity, as our community is growing.
Town council requested that staff report back to them on local share options, and bring back an actual amount, if they can, that they can place on the agenda. T
he report would also show where the funding can come from. Staff will report back on this for the November council meeting.
