Man Convicted In Child's Death Gets Bail
A man who was convicted in the wrongful death of an eight year old boy walked out of a Toronto courtroom last Friday on $1500 bail.
David Sillars, the Etobicoke area man was convicted in the canoeing death of eight-year-old Thomas Rancourt, after being found guilty of several charges of operating a canoe while under the influence, causing death.
Sillars took 8-year-old Thomas Rancourt out in a canoe on April 27th, 2017 and it capsized throwing both occupants into the cold water. Sillars was able to swim to shore, but the child was swept over High Falls.
Conditions of his bail include abstaining from the consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, an order not to operate a vessel, and placed under house arrest.
Sillars plans to appeal the conviction with a tentative court date set for February next year.
