Muskoka Heritage Place Gift Shop to feature locally sourced crafts
Muskoka Heritage Place is “re-envisioning” their gift shop as a consignment-based “locally sourced” venue, said manager, Jillian Jordan in the May 25th Huntsville General Committee meeting.
The MHP requested final approval to enter into consignment agreements with local artisans. This would provide the community and tourists with traditional crafts and merchandise at the gift shop, and “highlighting all of the local talent that we have, and drive it to the site, especially in the off-season when it gets quieter, when the village and train are closed,” said Jordan.
There will be a process in place for selecting artists, the timeframe for displaying the merchandise to the public, and the commission.
Councillor Nancy Alcock praised the endeavour, saying, “I absolutely support it and think it’s a great idea, and I’m sure the community of artists will really appreciate it,” as the approval was carried.
