OPP Remind Boaters About Lifejackets & Other Safety Equipment
OPP noted several situations on the water over the May Victoria Day weekend and vessel operators need to be mindful of safe boating practices.
Police stopped several vessels over the holiday weekend and had to deal with vessel operators that not only had no life jackets but also had no other safety equipment aboard their vessels.
Police say vessel operators need to check that they have on board sufficient life jackets for every person(s) on board and required safety equipment prior to leaving the shore". For anyone who is unsure of the equipment required for their vessel please visit csbc.ca/en/boatnotes
Police remind vessel operators that an essential part their enforcement effort is to save lives and reduce injuries on waterways while promoting and educating the public about safe boating practices.
