OPP Remind Drivers Of Substantial Fines For Not Stopping For School Buses
The OPP is reminding drivers that a new school year starts today.
Police are asking the public to be vigilant when they see school buses travelling throughout the region.
Every driver, when meeting a stopped school bus with its overhead red signal-lights flashing, must stop before reaching the bus and SHALL NOT proceed until the bus moves or the overhead red signal-lights have stopped flashing.
Police say drivers and vehicle owners will be charged if their vehicle illegally passes a stopped school bus. Fines range from $400 to $2000 plus six demerit points for a first offence and from $1000 to $4000, six demerit points and possible jail time up to six months for each subsequent offence.
