Police lay 1634 charges over long weekend
OPP say the Labour Day long weekend safety initiative kept officers busy across Central Region on OPP patrolled roadways, trails and waterways.
Police say that during this initiative, officers conducted targeted enforcement, focusing on speeding, seatbelts, distracted driving, and impaired driving. As a result, a total of 1634 charges were laid.
Speeding charges lead the way at 944, with lack of seatbelt use at 134, Stunt driving or racing at 26, Impaired charges at 24 and Distracted driving at 23.
Police say excessive speed and dangerous driving continue to threaten the safety of all road users.
