Police Pursuit Catches Wrong Way Driver
Bracebridge OPP investigated a report of a wrong way driver on Highway 11 South in Gravenhurst on Saturday at 11:00 p.m. and in order to protect public safety, had the highway closed in that area.
Police say an unrelated vehicle approached the road closure travelling southbound, noticed the police cruiser, stopped and turned to drive away, proceeding north in the southbound lanes.
The suspect vehicle was confronted by another officer traveling southbound and stopped temporarily before driving through the grass median and continuing north, now in the northbound lanes. Police engaged in a short pursuit before the driver pulled over and was subsequently arrested.
42 year-old Michael Gillroy of no fixed address has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle, Operation While Impaired, Over 80, and Flight from Peace Officer.
He will appear in a Bracebridge Court of Justice on June 25, 2019 to answer to his charges.
