Public Washrooms issues before Huntsville Council

At Monday’s Huntsville Town Council meeting staff presented a report on the current use of washrooms at 8 West St for July and August.

Staff told council that in 2017 the Town entered into a 5 year lease agreement with Coldwell Banker for the use of washrooms in their building which is near River Mill Park. This lease expires on June 30th 2022, and council chose not to renew for another 5 years. In a verbal discussion, council had asked staff to look at the option of a 2 month rental for July and August only. The town would then have port a potties starting in September, and a permanent solution in place for 2023.

The report on that will be before council next month. Staff spoke with Coldwell Banker and they agreed to the 2 month lease with the following conditions:  That the rent be increased from $ 700 to $1300 monthly, that a clause be added that the Town is responsible for any damage to the building as a result of the public washrooms, if the landlord is not negligent, and that any work that needs to be done would be completed in a timely fashion. The hours would be 9-4, 7 days as week.

Staff recommended that the Town enters into that agreement.
