Resident petitions town to improve crosswalk safety in school zones
A Huntsville resident is petitioning the town to improve crosswalks at Huntsville Public School and Huntsville High. Sarah Thatcher, who is a parent and a teacher at HPS, says hundreds of students cross main roads at Huntsville High School and Huntsville Public School multiple times each day and there are no high visibility crosswalks or painted lines to warn motorists or to help slow down traffic.
She is requesting that the Town of Huntsville and the District of Muskoka repaint the lines on the roads immediately, and conduct a full traffic survey, including the possibility of high visibility lighting similar to the new pedestrian lights installed on Main Street.
Thatcher has created an online petition for the public to sign, and will be making a delegation to Huntsville Council later this month.
