Section of gravel road on West Rd to get permanent asphalt
Huntsville Council approved road improvements for a section of West Street South at a recent meeting.
Residents on the one lane gravel portion of the road that extends 60 to70 feet have complained to the Town about not having a paved road like other homes on other parts of the road.
The paved portion of the road ends at a turnaround cul-de-sac at 83 West Street, then continues with a gravel surface.
Due to winter maintenance, such as snow plowing pushing the gravel off the road, and that the road is downhill, the gravel has to be replaced annually.
Upon discussion between Town staff and Council, considering the ongoing costs of regular maintenance to replace the gravel, it was decided a more long-term solution would be more cost effective.
Council approved the gravel portion of the road will be upgraded to asphalt pavement.
