A judge has found Etobicoke resident David Sillars guilty of the charge of impaired operation of a vessel causing death and criminal negligence causing death in the case involving 8 year-old Thomas Rancourt.

On April 7, 2017, 40 year-old David Sillars and his girlfriend’s 8 year-old son went canoeing on the Muskoka River in spring run off conditions.  Evidence given shows that Sillars was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

When the canoe capsized, Sillars was able to make his way to shore, but 8 year-old Thomas Rancourt was swept over High Falls in Bracebridge and drowned.
