Simcoe Muskoka's Chief Medical Doctor Explains His Reasons For Lockdown
Simcoe Muskoka’s Chief Medical officer of health made a rare briefing on Sunday to explain the reasons for recommending that the region move into the grey – lockdown zone starting today.
Dr Charles Gardiner said he received hundreds of emails and phone calls including one from Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith and told media that “I have heard from many people who are concerned about the impact on people’s livelihood, on their businesses, and physical and mental wellbeing, and I sympathize with them.”
Gardiner went to say that he had a better understanding of the repercussions from the implementation of the province’s “emergency brake”.
However, he says that Simcoe-Muskoka has one of the highest numbers of variants of concern in the province.
He also mentioned that he feared that this latest round closures could result in protest and some businesses refusing to comply with the order.
He said he will continue to monitor the data closely and advise the province when he thinks its safe to lift the restrictions.
