SIU charges Bracebridge OPP officer
The Special Investigations Unit has charged a Bracebridge OPP officer with assault following a incident that occurred this summer.
SIU Director Joseph Martini believes there is grounds to charge the officer who the SIU allege committed criminal offences in connection with the arrest of a 43-year-old man in Georgian Bay Twp.
On July 10, 2022, Bracebridge OPP officers were called to the Canadian Pacific Railway yard for a reported trespass and breaking and entering investigation. Officers located the man believed to be involved near a retail area on Front Street. There was an interaction between the officer and the man involving the use of a tazer. The man was arrested and transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with serious injuries.
Constable Scott Anthony has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon.
The officer is scheduled to appear in a Bracebridge on December 20, 2022.
