Water Treatment Plant Upgrades Comes In $1 Million Over Budget
Upgrades to the Fairyview Water Treatment Plant have jumped by more $1 million, bringing the total cost to $6.5 million.
During the most recent District meeting, councillors agreed to pump an additional $1 million into the project after costs came in higher than anticipated.
The Fairvyiew Water Treatment Plant in Huntsville is in its 32nd year of operation and it needs process upgrades and architectural rehabilitation, which is being addressed in three phases. All of phase one and two, as well as stage one of phase three have been completed. With the extra $1 million, the final cost is now expected to come in 20 percent over budget. However, staff said given the complexity of the project the extra $1 million was acceptable.
They said the money will come from other projects which have been deemed to be not as important for the time being.
