Work starts on long awaited gas station
Work has officially begun on a long awaited gas station near the Taylor Road exit on Highway 11 in Bracebridge.
Council officially gave approval for the gas station back in 2015 but work didn't begin until this week.
The gas station will be located on Cedar Lane, near the intersection with Taylor Road. The same triangular shape of property is also home to the 37 room Travelodge on the Taylor Road side.
The nearest gas stations to the exit are currently located several kilometres from Highway 11, on the opposite side of downtown.
The developer’s plans call for a four pump gas canopy to accommodate the fuelling of eight vehicles at a time.
They also have approval to build a 2,085 square foot convenience store that will include a 500 square foot restaurant component with no seating and a 969 square foot automatic car wash.
The proposal was put to a public meeting back in 2015 and did meet with some local opposition, mostly as it pertained to possible traffic congestion. However, after a few tweaks to the original plan, an updated version of the proposal was passed by council.
There is now a plan in place to make sure as many trees as possible are retained on site. A sidewalk is also set to be constructed in the area, which is located across the street from St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School.
